A festive ice skating session where skaters are encouraged to sing along to the tunes of Newcastle's own musical heroes, including Sam Fender, Jade, Cheryl and Sting.
Toon Tunes on Ice comes to the Life Science Centre on Friday 20 November, starting at 5pm. It's a one-off session on the open-air rink in Times Square, and it's new to this year's run.
The whole point is the music: you'll be skating to the tunes of Newcastle's own musicians, with Sam Fender, Jade, Cheryl and Sting on the playlist. The evening is billed as a one-off, and the organisers encourage you to belt out the songs while you glide. It's a local line-up that spans a few different eras of the city's music, so you'll be hearing voices from the current charts alongside some of the bigger names the Toon has put out over the years.
Life's open-air rink is a regular part of the Newcastle festive calendar. It's made of real ice and sits in Times Square, just outside the Life Science Centre, and it only opens for eight weeks each Christmas season. Toon Tunes on Ice is one of several themed nights this winter, alongside 'Skatin' to Nashville' and 'Pyjama Skate', and a final relaxed session with no music, no lights and fewer visitors. The rink is suitable for adults and teens of all abilities, and online booking is recommended.
