The Dekkertones, a nine-piece covers band, play authentic ska and reggae from the late 60s Trojan and Bluebeat to the 2Tone era.
The Dekkertones are playing The Cluny on Saturday 17 October, one of two dates they've got coming up. It's a nine-piece band, and they're a covers act, so the whole set is built around the ska and reggae they've spent their time working through.
Their repertoire runs from the late 60s Trojan and Bluebeat era through to the 2Tone era, so you'll hear the early Jamaican sounds and the later UK revival side by side. With nine people on stage, they've got a full horn section to carry the melodies that defined both periods. It's a broad stretch of ground to cover, and they're playing it all in one go.
They describe themselves as an authentic ska and reggae covers band, and that's the best way to sum them up. They're not doing their own thing here; they're playing the songs as they were, from the early days of Trojan and Bluebeat right through to the 2Tone era. If you know your way around those labels, you'll recognise where the set is coming from.

The gig is at The Cluny, 36 Lime Street, Ouseburn, NE1 2PQ, and it runs from 7:30pm to 11:00pm. It's one of two Dekkertones dates they've got lined up, so if you're after a night of ska and reggae, this is the one to keep in mind.
