A fun family workshop for primary school children to create a spooky tale using costumes, props and puppets.
Spooky Tales runs at Live Theatre on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October, part of the Live Tales Presents family workshops. It's aimed at primary school children aged 5 to 11, and it's a half-term session held at the theatre's children's writing centre on Broad Chare, down by the Quayside.
The whole thing is built around making a story from scratch. Costumes, props and puppets are the tools of the trade, and the children work together to build their own (not so) spooky tale in a playful, friendly session full of laughs, gasps and a little bit of magic. Once the story is finished, there's a boo-tiful scavenger hunt for brave little explorers to work their way through.
Because it's a workshop, the kids are the ones doing the heavy lifting rather than just sitting and watching. They're the storytellers here, pulling from the costumes and puppets to piece together something of their own. It's a good fit for the half-term break when you're looking for something to keep them occupied and creative for a few hours.

There are two sessions each day, at 11am and 1pm, so you can pick the one that fits your morning or afternoon. Tickets are £10 per child, and adults go in free — only the children need tickets. That makes it easy to bring along a few adults without worrying about the cost adding up. You'll find it at Live Theatre, Broad Chare, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 3DQ.
