Soft rock duo Smith & Liddle perform live at The Grove in Newcastle upon Tyne, presenting their album 'Songs For The Desert'.
Smith & Liddle play The Grove on Friday 16 October, with doors opening at 7:00pm. The duo is Billy Smith and Elizabeth Liddle, and the Newcastle date is presented by Notion Live Events.
They didn't start out together. Billy and Elizabeth grew up about 25 miles apart in small towns and only met when Billy was looking for a vocalist; they describe the chemistry as instant. From there they went into the studio to record Songs For The Desert, an homage to soft rock released on the Hamburg label Légère Recordings. The album earned rave reviews in magazines including Rolling Stone and took them on a tour across Europe. They grew up on the sounds of Laurel Canyon and the British Invasion, and that soft-rock lean comes through in the record.
For the live shows, they've expanded the sound. While the record is a duo, they're touring the UK and Germany with a full band, so what you'll hear at The Grove is a fuller version of the material than the studio recording. The Newcastle date is part of that wider run across the UK and Germany.
