A Halloween-themed walking tour of Old Newcastle led by costumed guides, exploring the city's hidden history from the castle to the Black Gate.
Newcastle Castle is running a Halloween edition of its Old Newcastle Walking Tours throughout October, with walks on every Monday and Friday. It's a themed take on the castle's usual tour, led by the castle's own guides who turn up in costume and lean on immersive storytelling to bring the history of Old Newcastle to life, much of it hidden behind the modern city.
The route starts at the castle and heads past the Monument, St Andrews — the city's oldest church — the town walls, the Friaries, old merchant houses and markets, before finishing at the Black Gate, the gatehouse of Newcastle's Castle. It's a good stretch of the city to cover in one go, and the whole thing takes around 90 minutes. The Halloween theme runs through it, so the guides are playing up the atmosphere rather than just sticking to the dates and names.

One of the better bits is that your ticket includes free entry to Newcastle Castle, and that entry stays valid for 48 hours after the walk, so you can head back in and see the castle properly on your own whenever suits you over the next couple of days. Tickets start from £11, and since the tours run every Monday and Friday throughout October, you've got plenty of dates to choose from if you're planning your Halloween month.
