Concert by Martin Harley, acclaimed British slide guitarist and roots artist, showcasing his album 'Morning Sun' at The Cluny 2.
Martin Harley plays The Cluny on Thursday 26 November, part of a tour taking his latest album around the UK. He's a British slide guitarist, singer and songwriter, and he's one of the few players in the country working with a Weissenborn — the traditional Hawaiian lap steel guitar. That's the sound that defines him: he plays the guitar flat on his lap, sliding a metal or glass bar over the strings rather than pressing them down with his fingers. It's a distinct, singing tone that sits somewhere between a guitar and a pedal steel.
His music pulls from blues, folk and Americana, and he's spent years touring internationally. He's headlined Music City Roots in Nashville and opened for Iron and Wine, Bruce Hornsby, Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart. The Guardian described his live shows as 'spellbinding', and Roots Magazine called him 'a slide guitar master'.
This tour is built around Morning Sun, the album he released on 18 October 2024, produced by Nigel Stonier. He'll be showcasing the new material live, so the set should lean heavily on the record. It's a solo show, with Harley handling the singing and the slide guitar himself.
