A concert rendition of Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds, presented by Kilimanjaro with West End performers, a live band, orchestra and animation.
Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds comes to O2 City Hall on Tuesday 13 October, part of a UK tour presented by Kilimanjaro. It's a concert rendition of Wayne's original double album, brought to life with West End performers, a live band, an orchestra and animation.
Wayne has described this version as stripping back the spectacle of his arena tours to the foundation — the music itself. He steps back from the podium to let artists from the West End and other major performing mediums take centre stage, so the focus stays on the songs and the story rather than the production around them. The animation runs alongside, keeping the narrative moving while the band and orchestra handle the score.
It's a touring production, so it's hitting theatres and concert halls across the UK, with O2 City Hall being the Newcastle stop. The venue itself opened in 1927 and is now part of the O2 Academy Group, with a capacity of around 2,135.
