A night of Halloween activities at the museum with crafts, trails, story time and disco, followed by a morning planetarium show.
Great North Museum: Hancock is hosting its first-ever Halloween sleepover on Friday 30 October, and it's exactly what it sounds like: a night spent inside the museum with the doors closed and the lights down. It runs from 5pm on the Friday through to 10am on Saturday morning, so you're staying over on the 30th and waking up on the 31st.
The evening is built around a full programme for families. There are creepy crafts and games, a terrifying trail to follow through the galleries, spooky story time, a phantom forest school, and a fancy dress disco. A hot buffet feast is served for teatime, and when the museum finally closes to the public, you settle in for bedtime stories and sleep among the exhibits. It's a strange, quiet kind of thing, drifting off surrounded by ancient worlds, deep-sea adventures with a narwhal, and orangutans swinging through the rainforest.
The morning brings a planetarium show and another hot buffet breakfast before everyone heads out at 10am. Public Programmes Manager Alex Boyd says the aim was to create an unforgettable Halloween experience for families, packed with adventure, and to show what happens when the museum is closed to the public.
