Story sessions for preschool children aged three to five, featuring 'Room on the Broom' and 'Ten Little Monsters', with associated crafts and play activities.
Discovery Museum is running two story sessions for small children on Wednesday 28 October, part of their Tiny Sparks programme. It's a half-term activity aimed at preschool children aged three to five and their parents or carers, with a seasonal story read aloud to the group followed by crafts and simple play activities. If you're in Newcastle with a little one during the break, it's a straightforward way to spend a morning or an afternoon.
There are two different stories on the day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The 10.30β11.30am session is built around Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, and the 1β2pm one follows Ten Little Monsters by Mike Brownlow and Simon Rickerty. Each one works the same way: the story is read aloud to the group, and then the children get to be creative with crafts and play activities that tie back to what they've just heard. It's designed for the three-to-five age group, so it's more about the doing than the sitting still.
Both sessions are part of Tiny Sparks, the museum's ongoing programme for preschool children and their parents or carers. The format stays the same across the seriesβa seasonal story read aloud, followed by a chance to get creative with associated crafts and simple play activities. It's a consistent setup, so if you've been to one before, you know how it goes.
