Concert by the punk and riot grrl trio Claudia at the Little Buildings venue in Newcastle.
Claudia play Little Buildings on Saturday 17 October, starting at 19:00. They're a punk and riot grrl trio from Sunderland, part of the Noisy North East scene, and this is a headline show with them as the sole act on the bill.
They formed at the Young Musicians Project, and you can hear where they're coming from: they cite Hole, L7, Babes in Toyland and Bikini Kill as their main inspirations. That's a particular kind of nineties noise—heavy, distorted, and loud—and it sits right in the riot grrl tradition of putting anger and energy at the front. One of their songs, 'Revolt!', channels that anger at modern problems, and it's a good example of the kind of thing they bring to the stage.
They've been building a name for themselves on the local circuit for over a year now, and they've started to look beyond the North East, with dates in Whitby and Scotland. This one brings them into Newcastle, so it's a good chance to catch them if you've been hearing about them but haven't yet seen them live.
