Live performance by the Australian yacht rock tribute band Yacht Rock Revival at Flamingos Live.
Yacht Rock Revival are playing Flamingos Live on Sunday 27 September, bringing their take on the soft-rock sound of the late seventies and early eighties to Newcastle.
If you're not familiar with the term, yacht rock is that particular stretch of smooth, polished pop from the era — the kind of music that sounds like it belongs on a boat in the sun, all clean production and melodic hooks. It's the sound of artists like Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, and Hall & Oates, and that's the territory Yacht Rock Revival works in. They're a tribute act, so the set is built around the songs and the style of that period rather than their own material.
It's a Sunday afternoon gig, which fits the mood of the music. The set kicks off at 12:00pm at Flamingos Live, so it's more of a lunch-time thing than a late-night one. If you've spent any time around the Newcastle music scene, you know Flamingos is a regular spot for live acts, and this is one of the Sunday sessions they've got on the calendar for the spring.
