The Very Short Film Festival is coming to Tower Cinemas on Thursday 6 August, part of its 2026 tour across Australia. It's a hand-picked collection of the country's best very short films, all under five minutes, shown together on the big screen.
That five-minute limit is the whole point. It means the session moves quickly, with one story following another in a single sitting rather than a few longer films. The festival describes its Official Selection as bold stories, fresh voices, and standout emerging filmmakers, and because every film is so short, you get a good range of them in one go. It's a fair bit different from a standard cinema trip—more of a showcase than a single feature.
The tour itself comes after the festival's National Premiere Weekend, which in 2026 included workshops, filmmaker conversations, and the 2026 Dorothys. This session at Tower Cinemas is part of the tour that takes that Official Selection out to cinemas and venues around the country, so it's the same programme that's been touring since the premiere.
