A special film screening and Q&A with the director of Acropolis Cats & Other Wondrous Animals.
Acropolis Cats & Other Wondrous Animals is screening at PACC on Saturday 24 October, with a Q&A with the director to follow the film. It's a 76-minute documentary by Mary Zournazi, presented in English and Greek and rated PG, so it's one you can bring the kids along to if you're out with the family.
The film looks at the stray cats of Athens and beyond, and it doesn't stop at the animals themselves. It weighs the tenderness and the tragedies of human-animal relationships, and from there it opens up into bigger questions about love, cruelty, compassion and what can be learned about freedom in a rapidly changing world. It's a cat documentary, yes, but it's as much about the people who look after them as it is about the cats.
Having the director there for a Q&A afterwards is the real draw here. You'll get the film first, then a chance to hear from Mary Zournazi herself about how she put it together. If you've ever wondered about the stories behind the footage or the things that didn't make the final cut, that's your moment to find out. It turns a standard screening into something more of a conversation, and it's a good excuse to stick around and chat with other people who've just seen the same thing.
