If you have kids, friends or just fancy an afternoon with a paintbrush, Canny Crafty Newcastle is a family-run painting studio at 147-149 Salters Road in Gosforth, about two miles from the centre of Newcastle. It was established in 2017. The main draw is pottery painting: 90-minute sessions run from Tuesday to Sunday, and items are priced from roughly A$30 to A$90.

Beyond the pottery, the studio also offers print capturing, where prints of children or pets are taken onto ceramics or in clay. There are regular hand-building workshops suited to beginners, and paint-at-home kits for taking the experience home. For families, there are children's parties with hand and foot prints and pottery painting, and the studio also takes corporate and private group bookings.
The studio has a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Google Maps from 178 reviews. Visitors describe a welcoming, relaxed space that is clean, fresh and affordable, with plenty of pottery options to choose from. Staff come up often: reviewers call them friendly and helpful, and one mentions Soula helping with baby prints. Others say staff refill paint colours when they run low, manage session time well, and helped calm meltdowns while keeping a positive atmosphere. One review from August this year, however, described staff shouting from a distance while a parent struggled with a pram and a child.
Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00, Saturday from 10:00 to 17:30, and Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00. The studio is closed on Mondays, and hours can change occasionally, so you can check by calling 0191 284 5746 or emailing newcastle@cannycraftynewcastle.co.uk. A bus stop sits right outside, served by routes 6, 7, 8, 30, 31 and 35. South Gosforth Metro station (Yellow and Green lines) is also nearby and reaches the city centre in about eight minutes. There is no onsite parking, so you will need to look for a space on neighbouring streets, which may have permit restrictions, or use the pay and display car park at the bottom of Salters Road. Regent Centre Metro station has a Park & Ride with 183 spaces.
