A jazz show featuring female vocalists led by Wendy Burns, a Nashville jazz vocalist and producer, at Rudy's Jazz Room.
Wendy Burns brings her Ladies of Jazz Show back to Rudy's Jazz Room on Sunday, October 18, from 6 PM to 8:15 PM. It's a series she creates and produces, a multi-year fixture at Rudy's that pairs Nashville's female vocalists with the city's best musicians. For this one, she's sharing the stage with singer Roz Clark-Thompson.
Burns is a jazz vocalist who also plays the flute, and she's been studying and performing 1940s Jazz Big Band songs since she was nine. Her set draws from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, and her own originals, with vaudeville-style numbers featuring Grover, her ukulele. Her influences run from Judy Garland and Doris Day to Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, The Andrew Sisters, and Helen Forrest.
She's picked up a few awards along the way: a 2024 NIMA Award, a 2022 ALM Nash Hall of Fame induction, and Best Jazz from the Mississippi Awards in 2023 and 2024. She also earned a Southern Music Award nomination in 2025. Beyond the jazz, she's performed at the Grand Ole Opry and sessioned with Nashville country greats.

Roz Clark-Thompson brings a different kind of stage history to the night. She's a former Warner Bros. recording artist who played the Tony Award-winning role of Aunt Em in the Broadway musical The Wiz and toured with Olivia Newton-John, Tom Jones, and Engelbert Humperdinck. The show runs from 6 PM to 8:15 PM at Rudy's Jazz Room, 809 Gleaves St in The Gulch, with tickets $18 at the door.
