A live performance by the Seattle-based funk and soul group True Loves, joined by Memphis soul singer DeRobert Adams and his band The Half-Truths.
True Loves are playing 3rd & Lindsley on Wednesday, October 21, with DeRobert & The Half-Truths opening. It's a double bill of instrumental funk and soul, and both bands bring a fair amount of history to the stage.
True Loves is a Seattle-based original instrumental funk and soul group that started back in 2014 as a jam session between drummer David McGraw, bassist Bryant Moore, and guitarist Jimmy James. Since then, they've grown into a larger ensemble, adding percussionist Ivรกn Galvez, trombonist Greg Kramer, and saxophonists Gordon Brown and Skerik. They put out their debut instrumental album, Famous Last Words, in 2017 and followed it with Sunday Afternoon in 2021. More recent releases include the single "Good Weed and Red Wine," recorded with Lettuce keyboardist Nigel Hall, and "Dopus no. 1." The band has toured Europe twice and supported Ghost Note on their return to the US, and they're currently working on a new album.
Sharing the bill is DeRobert Adams, a Memphis native who grew up singing in the church and has spent nearly two decades performing raw soul. With his backing band, the Half-Truths, he's been the flagship combo for Nashville's G.E.D. Soul Records, releasing a pair of LPs, several EPs, and a handful of 45s.
