A high-energy live session where the crowd takes the stage to perform trap, hip-hop and R&B songs in a user-generated concert experience.
Trap Karaoke is coming to The Truth on Friday, October 23, for a live session in Nashville. If you've never heard of it, the name tells you most of what you need to know: it's karaoke built around trap, hip-hop, and R&B. But it's not the kind of karaoke where you sign up for a slot and sing a ballad while everyone else checks their phones. The whole thing is run like a high-energy concert, and the crowd is the main act.
Instead of a cover band on stage, the people in the room take the mic. Fan performances are the center of the night, so the set is built from the songs the crowd chooses to bring. It's a user-generated show, which means the energy depends on who shows up and what they're feeling. The format has grown its own following over the years and picked up a 'Litty Award' along the way.
There's a bit of history behind it, too. Jason Mowatt started Trap Karaoke in New York back in 2015 with the idea of reinventing live entertainment by turning traditional karaoke into something more like a party. Since then, the show has hosted guest appearances from artists like 2 Chainz and Yo Gotti, so while the fans are the focus, the stage has seen some real names. That same energy is what they're bringing to Nashville.
