A dramatic opera by Giacomo Puccini set in 1800s Rome, performed by Nashville Opera at TPAC Jackson Hall.
Nashville Opera brings Tosca to TPAC Jackson Hall on Thursday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 10, both at 7:30 PM. It's Puccini's most cinematic opera, set in 1800s Rome, and it moves fastโthe whole story unfolds in under 24 hours. The plot follows the singer Floria Tosca as she fights to save her lover from the corrupt police chief Scarpia, and it hits some heavy beats along the way: a mock execution, a deadly double-cross, and one of the most famous final moments in opera. The libretto is by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa.
On stage, the production uses hand-painted traditional sets that lean into the grand scale of Italian tragedy. It's performed entirely in Italian, with English supertitles projected for the audience, so you can follow the story even if you don't know the language. The whole thing runs about two hours and 45 minutes, including intermission.
