Nashville Opera presents Puccini's Tosca, a high-stakes race against time where passion and politics collide in 1800s Rome.
Nashville Opera brings Puccini's Tosca to TPAC Jackson Hall on Thursday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 10, both at 7:30 PM. It's one of the big names in the opera world, and if you've never seen it, it's a good place to start. The story is set in 1800s Rome and unfolds in under 24 hours, which keeps the pace moving. It follows the singer Floria Tosca as she fights to save her lover from the corrupt police chief Scarpiaโa race against time where passion and politics collide.
It's a high-drama production that leans into the grand scale of Italian tragedy. Along the way, you'll get a mock execution, a deadly double-cross, and one of opera's most iconic final leaps. The staging uses hand-painted traditional sets, and the whole thing is performed in Italian with English supertitles projected for the audience. The run is about 2 hours 45 minutes including intermission, and it's recommended for ages 10 and over.
On stage, Brittany Olivia Logan takes the title role of Tosca, with Ben Gulley as Cavaradossi and SeungHyeon Baek as Scarpia. David Crawford plays both Angelotti and the Jailer, Mark Whatley is Sciarrone, Steven Aiken is the Sacristan, and Rick Hale takes on Spoletta while also covering Cavaradossi. John Hoomes directs the production, and Dean Williamson conducts the Nashville Opera Orchestra.
