Jazz-funk musician Thundercat performs live on his Distracted AF Tour, with an opening DJ set by Channel Tres.
Thundercat plays Marathon Music Works on Saturday, October 31, as part of his Distracted AF Tour. He's bringing Channel Tres along for a DJ set, so the night starts with a dance floor before the main act takes over. Doors open at 7 PM, and the show kicks off at 8 PM.
If you're not already familiar, Thundercat is Stephen Bruner, a Los Angeles jazz-funk musician whose work pulls from jazz fusion, funk, hip-hop, and a good deal of internet-era humor. He grew up in a musical family—his father was a drummer and his brother, Ronald Bruner Jr., has played with Kamasi Washington and Snoop Dogg. In his early days, he played in the metal band Suicidal Tendencies, a far cry from the sound he's known for now.
He emerged as a solo artist in the early 2010s with The Golden Age of Apocalypse (2011) and Apocalypse (2013), and 2017's Drunk, which followed his feature on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly. His 2020 album It Is What It Is was shaped by grief and the loss of his friend Mac Miller. The tour is named for his 2025 album Distracted, which takes modern distraction as its central subject, made with producer Greg Kurstin and featuring Willow, A$AP Rocky, and Lil Yachty.
