Tribute concert celebrating the music of Gerald Levert with artists from his legacy, held at City Winery.
The LeVert Experience - A Legacy Revived comes to City Winery Nashville on Sunday, October 11, a tribute to the late Gerald Levert. He was one of R&B's most distinctive voices and the son of O'Jays legend Eddie Levert. The show pulls from his work with LeVert, LSG, and his solo career, and it's built around the artists who were actually part of his world.
Rather than outside acts approximating his sound, the lineup draws from people with a direct lineage to Levert. Marc Gordon, who was in LeVert, shares the bill with David Tolliver of Men At Large and Joe Little III of The Rude Boys. The set covers classics from LeVert, Men At Large, The Rude Boys, and Levert's solo catalog, spanning more than four decades of R&B history. The show itself grew out of a tribute performance inspired by legendary radio personality Tom Joyner.
There's a bit of history behind the names on the bill. Beyond his own records, Gerald launched and mentored groups like Men At Large and The Rude Boys through Trevel Productions, so the artists on stage were part of the same circle. The night is billed as one of the last performances from one of the era's most revered figures.
