Legendary rock band The Beach Boys perform at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, with special guest John Stamos.
The Beach Boys play the Ryman Auditorium on Sunday, October 11, with special guest John Stamos. It's a Sunday night show, so you'll have the rest of the weekend to get your head in the right space before heading downtown.
If you're not familiar with the history, the band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961 around the three Wilson brothers—Brian, Carl, and Dennis—their cousin Mike Love, and school friend Al Jardine. Love, the band's co-founder, lead singer, and chief lyricist, wrote the words to their first hit, "Surfin'", and from there they went on to rack up chart-toppers like "Surfin' USA", "California Girls", "Good Vibrations", "Help Me Rhonda", and "Kokomo". They've sold more than 100 million records worldwide, earned over 33 RIAA Platinum and Gold awards, and put more than 80 songs on the charts.
There's a fair bit of critical weight behind those numbers, too. Rolling Stone ranked Pet Sounds No. 2 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and the band No. 12 on its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001, and have performed more concerts than any other major rock band. The Ryman Auditorium, the former home of the Grand Ole Opry, is known as the "Mother Church", so it's a particular kind of room for a group with this much history.
