Live blues concert by Grammy-nominated guitarist and singer Sue Foley at The Lounge at City Winery Nashville.
Sue Foley plays City Winery on Saturday, October 17, at The Lounge, 609 Lafayette Street. She's a Grammy-nominated blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for a fiery Texas blues style and a refined acoustic touch.
Foley's career spans decades. Born in Ottawa, she picked up the guitar at 13 and was playing professionally by 16. In her early twenties, she moved to Austin and signed with the legendary Antone's Records, where she released her 1992 debut, Young Girl Blues. Since then, she's toured internationally and shared stages with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Billy F. Gibbons. She's won the Blues Music Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist five years running, from 2020 to 2025, and also holds a JUNO Award and the 2024 Maple Blues 'Blues With a Feeling' Lifetime Achievement Award.
There's a scholarly side to her work, too. She earned a PhD in Musicology from York University and published Guitar Women: Conversations with the Heroines of Guitar in June 2026. Her album One Guitar Woman: A Tribute to the Female Pioneers of Guitar earned a 2025 Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. On stage, she plays a signature pink paisley Fender Telecaster and a hand-built flamenco guitar.
