Jazz session featuring Pat Coil with Bergeson, Cobb, Nitti and Little at Rudy's Jazz Room.
Pat Coil brings his group to Rudy's Jazz Room on Saturday, October 10, for a set he's calling Music For Humans. He's leading a quintet that includes guitarist and harmonica player Pat Bergeson, Evan Cobb, Adam Nitti, and Wes Little. It's a full band on the stage, and the bill is straightforward: Coil's name on the marquee, his group behind him.
Coil's a pianist who's spent a lot of time on the road. He's toured Japan, South America, Europe, and the U.S. with Michael McDonald, Carmen McCrae, Olivia Newton-John, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, and Woody Herman, and he's recorded with Natalie Cole, Trisha Yearwood, Ernie Watts, Kenny Rogers, and Travis Tritt. During his years in Los Angeles, he played on a fair number of film and TV scores, including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Murphy Brown, and Growing Pains, and he appeared with artists on The Tonight Show, Arsenio Hall, and Conan O'Brien. He also spent time in the classroom, teaching jazz piano, combos, and improvisation at Middle Tennessee State University and serving as an Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas. These days he's back on the road with Michael McDonald and Lynda Carter.
Bergeson is a Nashville fixture. Chet Atkins brought him to town in the early '90s after hearing him on a demo tape, and he's recorded and toured with Atkins ever since. He's also performed with Lyle Lovett, Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, Michael McDonald, Tommy Emmanuel, Bill Frisell, and Joey DeFrancesco. He plays both guitar and harmonica, so he'll be doubling up throughout the night.
