Documentary screening as part of the Doctober series at The Belcourt Theatre, directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.
NAZA is playing The Belcourt Theatre on Tuesday, Oct 13, and Wednesday, Oct 14, as part of the theater's Doctober series. It's a documentary directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, and it runs 80 minutes.
The film was shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, and it looks at the systems behind Israel's bombing of Gaza and the mass killing of Palestinian civilians. The title comes from a military acronym used by Israeli intelligence to indicate the number of civilians expected to be killed in an airstrike. It's a heavy subject, and the film doesn't shy away from it.
Abraham and Szor are two of the four co-directors of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, so they're coming to this with a track record for this kind of work. The film was executive produced by Jonathan Glazer and James Wilson, the Oscar-winning team behind The Zone of Interest. It had its world premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize, and critics have compared it to Claude Lanzmann's Shoah.
