The Marquee Big Band reimagines modern pop hits with a postmodern big band jazz sound at the historic Woolworth Theatre.
Marquee Big Band plays the Woolworth Theatre on Thursday, October 22, from 7 PM to 10:30 PM. They're taking modern pop hits and reimagining them with a postmodern big band jazz sound, so the songs you recognize come back in a different key and a different arrangement.
The band describes itself as the electrifying heartbeat of the Marquee, and the way they talk about their sound gives you a good sense of where it sits. They call it equal parts glamour and grit, blending classic sophistication with an unexpected edge. It's a big band at its core, but the postmodern twist means they're looking at current pop through a jazz lens rather than just playing the standards.
They're playing at the Woolworth Theatre, a registered historic site in downtown Nashville's Fifth Avenue Historic District. The building has three floors of event space and a history that reaches back to the Civil Rights Movement, when its lunch counters were the site of sit-ins. It also holds the performances and artists that helped shape the city. These days it's one of Nashville's premier rental spaces for corporate events, galas, and celebrations, equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology and full-service catering. It's also home to the Shiners Family Reunion, the city's first-of-its-kind resident stage show.
