Live performance by the songwriting duo Marian Hill at The Basement East, part of their Act Two The Tour.
Marian Hill play The Basement East on Wednesday, February 17, 2027. The duo is out on the road for Act Two: The Tour, and this is their Nashville stop.
If you're not familiar with how they work, it's a songwriting partnership between Jeremy Lloyd and Samantha Gongol, who have been collaborating since high school. They flip the usual stage dynamic on its head: the live show is fronted by a woman on a mic and a man behind a laptop, blending blues, bass, acoustic, and digital sounds. It's a setup that puts the voice and the electronics side by side rather than one hiding the other.
Their rise has a bit of a basement story to it. Two years before they broke through, they wrote and recorded "Whisky" over spring break in Jeremy's parents' basement and released it for free on SoundCloud that summer. Within a year, they'd recorded their first EP in a bedroom, amassed millions of plays, sold out shows across the country, and landed high-profile commercials, eventually signing to Republic Records in early 2015. Their debut album, Act One, was written and produced by the duo and includes tracks like "Down," "I Know Why," "Mistaken," and "Same Thing."
