Manchester Orchestra brings their indie rock and alternative anthems to the Ryman, with a special duo performance by Kevin Devine + Brother Bird.
Manchester Orchestra play the Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday, November 17, with a special duo performance by Kevin Devine + Brother Bird opening the night. It's a double bill that pulls from a few different places at once.
The band is coming off The Million Masks of God, their 2021 album that drew on frontman Andy Hull's reflections on grief and guitarist Robert McDowell's father's battle with cancer. Since then, they've put out The Valley of Vision, a six-song project recorded at a converted manor in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Hull found the title in a 1975 book of old Puritan prayers he discovered in his suitcase, and the record comes with a VR film created by writer-director Isaac Deitz using 3D-computed radiography technology. Between the two, the set sits at the crossroads of indie rock, alternative, indie folk, and post-rock.
Opening the show is Kevin Devine + Brother Bird, a duo performance that should fit the mood. Devine has a long history of working with Manchester Orchestra, so it's a natural pairing for a night that leans as much on folk and songwriting as it does on the louder, alternative side of things.
