Grammy-winning jazz pianist Kamasi Washington joins forces with vocalist Ami Taf Ra to present her debut album 'The Prophet and the Madman', a fusion of Moroccan Gnawa, Arabic tradition, gospel, soul and spiritual jazz.
Kamasi Washington and Ami Taf Ra bring The Prophet & The Madman to City Winery Nashville on Tuesday, November 17, 2026. The show is presented by Lovenoise.
The evening centers on Ami Taf Ra's debut album, The Prophet and the Madman, which Kamasi Washington produced and which came out on Brainfeeder. Taf Ra is a North African, Los Angeles-based vocalist and composer, and the record pulls together Moroccan Gnawa, Arabic musical tradition, gospel, soul, and spiritual jazz. The writing of Kahlil Gibran, particularly his work on healing and transformation, informs the album's themes.
Washington, a Grammy winner and Emmy nominee, is one of the defining musical forces of his generation, working across jazz, soul, hip hop, classical, and film. He produced the album and shares the bill with Taf Ra for this performance.
