A hard-swinging jazz session led by Nashville bassist Jimmy Sullivan at Rudy's Jazz Room.
Jimmy Sullivan brings his Swingin' Scene to Rudy's Jazz Room on Sunday, October 12, from 6 PM to 8:15 PM. It's a hard-swinging jazz set led by Sullivan himself, one of Nashville's premier bassists.
Sullivan's background explains a lot of what you'll hear. He was born and raised in Reston, Virginia, where he studied jazz performance at Virginia Commonwealth University. From there, he spent years in New York City before making his mark here in Nashville. That trajectory lets him blend East Coast jazz with Southern soul, and he's built a career around that cross-pollination.
He's shared the stage with a wide range of artists, from jazz and crossover names like Laila Biali, Nicole Zuraitis, Joel Frahm and Alyssa Allgood to country and Americana legends like Lee Ann Womack, Mark Collie and Ashley Campbell. He's also known for his work with the genre-blending jazz collective Postmodern Jukebox, which does exactly what the name suggests: reimagining popular songs through a jazz lens. This isn't a one-off for him, either—he performs a bi-monthly residency at Rudy's, so this is part of a regular presence in the room.
