Jenna Levine celebrates her new book Love You to Death in conversation with Alexandria Bellefleur.
Jenna Levine is coming to Parnassus Books on Tuesday, October 13, to talk about her new book, Love You to Death. She'll be in conversation with Alexandria Bellefleur, so it's a conversation rather than a reading—the kind of night where you get to hear how a book actually comes together.
Love You to Death is a comedy that starts with a bus hitting Lucy McKenzie. She dies, and Daniel, a jaded grim reaper, grants her six more weeks of life on one condition: she has to report back on humanity. Over those few weeks, the two discover that a second chance at living might be their real chance at love. It's a paranormal romance with a sense of humor, and Levine is a USA Today bestselling author who's made a career out of exactly that—humorous paranormal romance.
She's open about where the book came from. She credits the show Dead Like Me and the kdrama Goblin as influences, and she says the kernel of the idea came from her best friend, Katie Shepard, years ago. She first pitched it to her editor in 2023, shortly after My Roommate Is a Vampire was published, and she calls it the best book she's written. When she's not writing, she works to increase access to affordable housing in the American South; off duty, she tends to her cats, knitting projects she probably won't finish, and imagining she's hiking somewhere beautiful.
