Concert featuring ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro with special guest Sam Bush at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Jake Shimabukuro plays the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Tuesday, October 27, with Sam Bush as his special guest. The show is at the CMA Theater, 224 Rep. John Lewis Way S, and it starts at 7:30 PM.
Shimabukuro is known as the 'Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele,' a title that fits the way he plays. He was born and raised in Honolulu and started on the instrument at age four, and he's spent his career pushing it far beyond its traditional boundaries. His style blends jazz, rock, classical, blues, folk and traditional Hawaiian music, so you'll hear the ukulele doing things it doesn't usually do. He's collaborated with Jimmy Buffett, Mick Fleetwood, Ziggy Marley, Bette Midler and Yo-Yo Ma, and has played the Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl and the Kennedy Center. He's also a passionate advocate for music education.
Sam Bush, his special guest, is a Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist known as the 'King of Telluride' and the 'King of Newgrass,' and he co-founded the genre-bending New Grass Revival. He's played alongside Emmylou Harris, Bela Fleck, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson and Earl Scruggs. His seventh solo album, Circles Around Me, includes 'The Ballad of Stringbean and Estelle,' a song based on the 1973 murder of Grand Ole Opry star David 'Stringbean' Akeman and his wife.

It's a pairing of two musicians who both lean into the crossover side of their instruments—one bringing the ukulele into rock and jazz, the other blending bluegrass with a wider range of styles.
