Hiss Golden Messenger performs their album 'I'm People' live, supported by Sam Amidon, at The Basement East.
Hiss Golden Messenger play The Basement East on Saturday, November 14, as part of the I'm People tour. They're bringing Sam Amidon along to open the night, so there are two acts on the bill.
Hiss Golden Messenger is the folk, Americana, and indie project fronted by MC Taylor. The tour is built around his latest album, I'm People, which Taylor wrote from a lost moment in Bolinas, California. He recorded it in studios across the American South and produced it with Josh Kaufman at Dreamland, a decommissioned church just outside Woodstock, New York. Taylor describes it as an intensely human record about solitude, heartbreak, and hope, set against "America circa 2025."
That's a good way to frame what the band does. They've always sat in that intersection of folk and indie, and I'm People keeps that thread going. The songs come from a specific place—Bolinas—and a specific time, and they're being played live on a tour that takes them across the country. With Sam Amidon opening, the whole evening stays in that folk-leaning territory.
