Celtic band Gaelic Storm performs their greatest hits live at City Winery, blending traditional Irish music with sea shanties and energetic instrumentals.
Gaelic Storm play City Winery Nashville on Monday, October 12, with their greatest hits live on the main stage. It's a Celtic band with a long history and a sound that pulls from a few different places: traditional Irish music, drinking songs, sea shanties, and fast instrumentals. If you've never heard of them, you might recognize the song "Irish Party in Third Class" from the movie Titanicβthat was one of their early gigs, and it's the one that put them on the map.
They started as a pub act in mid-1990s Santa Monica, California, and have spent the years since on the road. They've played more than 2,000 shows and topped the Billboard World Chart six times, and they're a regular headliner at Irish festivals across the country. Frontman Patrick Murphy credits the fans with giving the band its life, and longtime member Ryan Lacey calls them a "true working-man's band" that still tours most of the year.
For this show, the lineup brings together founding members Patrick Murphy and Steve Twigger, joined by fiddler Natalya Kay and guitarist Parker Hastings. You'll hear their older material alongside their latest release, Matching Sweaters, which they wrote with co-writer Steve Wehmeyer and which mixes traditional Irish music with more modern influences.
