A foliage-focused hike to learn basic tree identification skills, suitable for ages 8 and up.
Warner Park Nature Center is hosting a Fall Foliage Hike on Wednesday, October 14, from 10 AM to 12 PM. It's a free walk open to anyone age 8 and up, and registration opened on September 30.
The hike is built around the idea that autumn is the perfect season to slow down and appreciate the many different types of trees throughout Warner Parks. You'll start by picking up some basic tree identification skills and then put them to the test on a foliage-focused walk through the woods. Kayleigh Winston will lead the group.
The hike takes place at the Warner Park Nature Center, located at 7311 TN-100 in Nashville. The center is a Metro Parks of Nashville-Davidson County environmental education center, described as Nashville's largest outdoor laboratory. It sits in Edwin Warner Park, which is run with Metro Parks and supported by Friends of Warner Parks. The center offers a wide range of research and education programs for all ages, from bird banding and citizen science to trail maintenance and urban outreach. Its bird banding station has been operating since 1982, and the center welcomes more than 10,000 school children each year for field trips and field research, along with university groups.
