A string quartet tribute to Fleetwood Mac played in candlelight inside The Parthenon.
A string quartet is taking on Fleetwood Mac inside The Parthenon on Friday, November 13. It's part of the Candlelight concert series, which pairs a string quartet with a candlelit setting, and this one happens inside the full-scale replica of the Parthenon in Centennial Park.
If you're not familiar with the format, it's pretty straightforward: a string quartet plays through the songs, and the room is filled with candlelight. The music is the focus, and the setting is the backdrop. The Parthenon is a big space, and having it lit by candles changes the whole feel of the place. It's a different way to hear songs you've probably heard a thousand times before, stripped down to strings and played in a room that's usually open to the park.
The music is a tribute to Fleetwood Mac, so the set is built around their catalog. A string quartet takes those melodies and harmonies and works them out on violins, viola, and cello. It's a chamber music take on a band known for its vocal harmonies and guitar lines, and the candlelight is the other half of the experience.
