Musical theatre workshops for children aged 9-14 at TPAC's Johnson Theater, inspired by Matilda and The Sound of Music.
TPAC is hosting two musical theatre workshops for kids on Saturday, October 24, at the Andrew Johnson Theater. Both are part of the Arts Adventure series, presented by TPAC Education & Community Engagement, and they're designed for different age groups. The first, When I Grow Up, is for ages 9 to 13, and the second, A Few of My Favorite Things, is for ages 10 to 14.
The workshops are led by TPAC teaching artists, who guide the kids through hands-on musical theatre and vocal activities. The whole thing is built around the shows currently playing at the center, so the material comes straight from the stage. When I Grow Up draws on Matilda, and A Few of My Favorite Things is inspired by The Sound of Music. It's a good way for kids to get a feel for how a musical is put together—singing, movement, and the kind of work that goes into a performance—rather than just watching from the seats.

Because the two workshops target slightly different age ranges, you can pick the one that fits your kid best. When I Grow Up leans into the world of Matilda, and A Few of My Favorite Things pulls from The Sound of Music, so if they have a particular favorite between the two, that's an easy way to decide. Both run on the same day, October 24, at the Andrew Johnson Theater, which is part of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in downtown Nashville.
