A vocal and movement workshop for ages 9-13 inspired by the musical Matilda, led by TPAC teaching artists.
TPAC is hosting Arts Adventure: When I Grow Up at the Johnson Theater on Saturday, October 24, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM. It's a vocal and movement workshop for kids ages 9 to 13, and this one takes its cues from Matilda. TPAC teaching artists lead the session, so it's run by people who know the stage rather than a general arts class.
The whole morning is built around the musical Matilda. The teaching artists guide the group through vocal and dance techniques pulled from the show's songs, and there's a good bit of focus on the performance side of things—making bold character choices and finding some confidence on stage. The kids get to see what it actually takes to bring a musical theater number to life, from the singing and the steps to the acting that holds it together.
It's an ensemble thing, too. They'll be working together as a group, picking up the kind of practical skills that matter in a production: responding to cues, nailing the choreography, and working on vocal technique. If you've got a kid who's always singing along to the soundtrack at home, this is a way for them to get behind the scenes of how a number is put together.
