Exhibition exploring the state of country and roots-based music over the past year through objects, stage wear, personal items and interactive displays.
American Currents: State of the Music is open now at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in downtown Nashville. It's the latest installment of the museum's annual exhibition, which looks back at country and roots-based music over the past year to trace musical developments, artist achievements and notable events. It opened Wednesday, March 18, 2026, and runs through January 2027.
The exhibition is built around objects rather than wall text. You'll see Vince Gill's Gibson ES-125 and Harmony acoustic guitars, Sierra Ferrell's Grammy 2025 stage gown, Charley Crockett's buckskin jacket, Wednesday's handwritten lyrics and Tammy Wynette's sequin-embellished outfit from the late 1970s. Touchscreen interactives sit alongside them, recapping the year's chart-topping albums and singles, highest-grossing tours and key awards show moments.
One section, called 'Unbroken Circle,' draws a line between artists and their influences, pairing names like Ken Pomeroy and John Denver or Carter Faith and Tammy Wynette. Video footage gathers the year's stand-out collaborations. The overall lineup of artists featured includes Julien Baker and TORRES, BigXthaPlug and Bailey Zimmerman, Tyler Childers, Luke Combs, Charley Crockett, John Denver, Vince Gill, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson, Tammy Wynette and Ringo Starr.
