Americana singer-songwriter Ali Sperry performs with Rachael Davis Music and Lilly Winwood.
Ali Sperry plays the Cambria Hotel Nashville Downtown on Monday, October 12, with Rachael Davis Music and Lilly Winwood opening. It's a Nashville singer-songwriter night in the middle of the work week, and the bill brings together three local names on one stage.
Sperry is a Nashville singer-songwriter, yoga teacher, transcendental meditationist, and mother. Her latest EP, When I Was a Mother and Other Songs, came out of a home studio she and her husband and life collaborator, Jamie Dick, built onto the back of their house during the pandemic. They call the space Joy Carnival, and the Dick Manor has long served as a social hub for East Nashville's musicians. That home-grown origin fits the record's title, which centers on motherhood and the songs that grew around it.
Critics have pointed to her clear-eyed, incisive songwriting and a vocal purity they've compared to Karen Carpenter. On her LP Crooked Feelings, she leaned into the genre-mixing spirit of the 1970s, and that same openness to blending styles runs through her work. With Rachael Davis Music and Lilly Winwood on the bill, the night gathers several voices from the city's songwriting community.
