A grassroots tribute concert celebrating the life and music of Bobby Weir, with all proceeds benefiting Porter's Call, a Middle Tennessee nonprofit.
The Basement East is hosting Ace: A Celebration of the Life & Music of Bobby Weir on Friday, October 9, a tribute to the Grateful Dead guitarist put on by Nashville's own music community. It's a grassroots affair, organized independently by local musicians rather than any official entity: it isn't produced, sponsored, endorsed, or authorized by the Weir family, Grateful Dead, Grateful Dead Productions, or their representatives.
All net proceeds go to Porter's Call, a Middle Tennessee nonprofit that provides free, confidential care and support to recording artists and their partners navigating the pressures of a life in music. The night also carries a double anniversary: it lands exactly one week before what would have been Bobby Weir's 79th birthday, and the organizers recall his last Nashville show at the Ryman on March 7, 2020, which became a benefit for tornado relief after the storms that tore through Middle Tennessee. Phil Lesh, who died in 2024, is also remembered during the evening.
