South For Winter, the New Zealand-formed folk and blues duo, plays The Royal Sonesta Minneapolis Downtown on the FARM tour.
South For Winter are playing The Royal Sonesta Minneapolis Downtown from Thursday, October 22, through Sunday, October 25. The dates are part of Folk Alliance Region Midwest (FARM), so if you're around the city that weekend, there's a good window to catch them.
South For Winter is a duo formed in New Zealand and now based in Nashville. The two behind it are multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Nick Stone, from Christchurch, New Zealand, and Dani Cichon, from Colorado. They describe their sound as a blend of dreamy acoustic duets, foot-stomping folk, and bluesy murder ballads—and they bring in a fair amount of gear to cover that ground. You'll hear ethereal harmonies and poetic lyrics set against percussive fingerstyle guitar, a bluesy resonator, suitcase stomp, and driving mandolin. It's a genre-bending mix that American Songwriter called "impeccable."

Because they're part of FARM, these aren't just one-off shows. The duo will be around from Thursday through Sunday, so you've got a few nights to choose from rather than just one date to work around. If you're into folk, indie folk, or americana, this is right in that wheelhouse. The Royal Sonesta is downtown, so it's easy to get to whether you're coming from the North Loop or across the river.
