Rock concert with new compositions by fifteen Twin Cities artists dedicated to women activists and social justice causes.
PROTEST, a Revolutionary Rock Opus opens at The Capri Theater on Thursday, October 22, and runs through Saturday, October 24. It's a rock concert dedicated to women activists on the front lines of change, from the Civil Rights era to Black Lives Matter, and the set is built around new compositions that pull in climate change, gun violence, voting rights, women's rights, immigrant rights and war.
The show was conceived in the wake of George Floyd's murder and the upheaval that followed across the Twin Cities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, fifteen local artists developed the work together, and they've described it as a way to inspire change through music. The songs pay tribute to a long line of figures: Alice Paul, Jane Fonda, Dolores Huerta, Marsha P. Johnson, Angela Davis, Diane Nash, Gloria Steinem, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Stacey Abrams, Alicia Garza, Malala Yousafzai and Greta Thunberg. It's a wide reach, spanning decades and different kinds of activism, and the music is meant to hold them all in one place.
Behind the scenes, the production is a collaboration between Perrin Post, Buffalo Gal Productions and The Capri. Post was a fiscal year 2026 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, which helped bring the project to the stage.
