Young People's Concert in which the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Molly Turner and narrated by Lady Midnight, brings Prokofiev's symphonic tale to life.
The Minnesota Orchestra brings Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf to Orchestra Hall on Wednesday, October 28, as part of their Young People's Concert series. It's a symphonic tale that works as both a story and a lesson: a young boy named Peter, with the help of a bird, a duck, and a cat, catches a wolf and marches him off to the zoo. The clever part is how it introduces the orchestra—each animal is given its own theme played by a different instrument, so you learn about the instrument families as the story unfolds.
Narrating the performance is Lady Midnight, a Twin Cities vocalist and performance artist whose 2020 debut album, Death Before Mourning, was named Best Album of 2020 by City Pages. Conducting the orchestra is Molly Turner, who began a one-year appointment as associate conductor in September 2026. The Minnesota Orchestra itself is now in its second century and ranks among America's top symphonic ensembles. Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård started his third season as music director in September 2025.
