Exhibition of sculptures by Yuna Cho, Jeff Feld, Silvia Gruner, Emily Hayton and Guy Nelson that explore how materiality makes sculpture transcend its own category.
OH, AURELIA opens at WICK on Sunday, October 18, and runs through October 30. It's a group show featuring Yuna Cho, Jeff Feld, Silvia Gruner, Emily Hayton, and Guy Nelson.
The exhibition works on the interlude of disciplines that materiality can induce, asking how sculpture can transcend itself into other realms of medium. It brings together those five artists to explore how sculpture escapes its own singular categorization through material exploration, audience interaction, and circulation through the exhibition. The focus is on the space where a physical object starts to lean into something else—how the stuff it's made of can push it beyond the usual boundaries of what we call sculpture.
That's the core of it: the way the work moves and changes as you walk through the room, and how it responds to the people in it. Rather than just standing there to be looked at, the pieces are meant to be experienced in a way that lets them slip out of their own category.
