North Loop Art Gallery Walk

The North Loop Art Gallery Walk returns to North Loop on Thursday, October 22, from 5 PM to 8 PM. It's one of several gallery openings that happen across the neighborhood on the same night, so you can drift between a few different spaces in a single evening. Most of the action centers on N 7th St, with 801 Lofts at 801 Washington Avenue North serving as one of the main anchors.

At 801 Lofts, the gallery is showing new work by Camille Hempel, Pete Driessen, and Pocket Toscani, with music by Rumba Eterna. The gallery is located in the building's three-story atrium, and it's one of three openings they host each year. The work there changes every four months and is entirely for sale, with the artists keeping 100% of the profits. Since 2005, the gallery has curated three shows a year, and opening nights are when North Loop residents open their doors to friends, family, and anyone wanting to support the local art community.

Two of the artists have distinct practices you can trace through their work. Camille Hempel is a multi-disciplinary artist who moved to New York in the early 90s and began documenting cast-offs found at the curb, a practice that informs her exploration of couches and their role in the American living room. Pete Driessen is a Minneapolis-based multipractice visual artist, sculptor, and cultural producer whose site-specific conceptual paintings, found object installations, and public art initiatives explore social, spatial, and material dynamics.

Beyond 801, there are several other stops to hit. Form + Content Gallery has Doppler Effect, new work by Marty Nash. Hewing Hotel Gallery is showing frag-ment-tos, Latin art in Minnesota. Kickernick Gallery has its Kickernick Fall Art Show 'Artful Inspiration', and Veronique Wantz Gallery is showing REVEALED by Kathy Snow Stratton. The walk runs from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, October 22, across various locations on N 7th St in the North Loop.
