Series of live music and art performances at local small businesses across Minneapolis, from a diner to an auto repair shop, to support them.
Minneapolis Amplified is running through October, November, and December, with live music popping up in small businesses across the city. It's a partnership between the local music collective Dance Agenda and the Minneapolis Arts and Cultural Affairs Department, part of the city's broader Minneapolis Forward initiative. The whole idea is to bring live music and art into spaces you wouldn't usually associate with them — an auto repair shop, a plant store, a diner — giving you a reason to shop local and discover new corners of your neighborhood.
The series is funded in part through the Small Business Resiliency Fund, which was approved last spring to support small businesses impacted by Operation Metro Surge. Mayor Jacob Frey called it a chance to support small businesses while seeing familiar places come alive in new ways, and Dance Agenda founder and techno DJ Leo Himself says it was created to bring people into local spaces and introduce them to local artists and businesses. It runs alongside the Family Gathering Concert Series.
