Public reception for the exhibition of fifteen Minnesota sculptors, with free admission to the gallery.
Let's Meet at the Horizon opens at the Katherine E. Nash Gallery on Wednesday, October 21, with a public reception from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The show brings together fifteen artists from across Minnesota, and the reception is the first chance to see it all in one room. If you can't make the opening, the exhibition stays on view through December 12.
The work pushes the expanded field of sculpture, and the materials run the gamut: carved wood, cast metal, beeswax, sewn leather, and intricate webs of electrical lines. The subject matter is just as wide, ranging from ecological networks and personal archives to domestic architecture and illusions of space. The artists are Katayoun Amjadi, Rachel Breen, Cameron Patricia Downey, John Fleischer, Dahn Gim, Alison Hiltner, Alexa Horochowski, Tracy Krumm, Dwight Mickelson, Lela Pierce, Chris Rackley, Aaron Spangler, Kenneth Steinbach, Angela St. Vrain, and Erika Terwilliger.
Curators Chris Larson and Rotem Tamir, both sculpture faculty in the Department of Art, frame the work as more than just object-making. They describe sculpture as only one visible trace of a much larger process of paying attention and continually adjusting our relationship to the world around us. The exhibition was made possible with support from the Harlan Boss Foundation for the Arts.
