Weekly residency by Arthur 'L.A.' Buckner and The Homework House Band, a jazz and funk jam with audience activities at Icehouse.
L.A.'s Monday Nights returns to Icehouse on Monday, November 2, as part of a weekly residency that runs through December 2026. The night is led by Arthur 'L.A.' Buckner, a Northside Minneapolis musician, teaching artist, and producer who holds a Master's in Percussion Performance from McNally Smith College of Music. He co-hosts the award-winning PBS music education YouTube series Sound Field and teaches Race & Identity at the University of Minnesota. In 2020, he released BiG HOMiE, which hit #1 on the iTunes jazz chart within 24 hours, and the Minnesota Music Education Association named him 2024 Music Educator of the Year.
On stage, Buckner leads The Homework House Band: Arthur 'L.A.' Buckner on drums, Omar Abdulkarim on trumpet and flugelhorn, Ethan Yeshaya on bass, and Kevin Gamble on keyboards. They're joined by rotating special guest vocalists, so the lineup changes from week to week. Buckner describes the sound as a historic blend of jazz, Gospel, hip hop, and avant-funk, and the night is built as a jazz and funk jam with audience activities rather than an open mic. Because it's a residency, you can catch it more than onceβit's back at Icehouse every Monday through the end of the year.
