A live cinema transmission of Giacomo Puccini's opera La Fanciulla del West, part of The Met: Live in HD series.
La Fanciulla del West comes to Showcase Cinemas on Sunday, January 23, as part of The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera's series of live cinema transmissions. It's a broadcast of the opera straight from the Met stage in New York, beamed into the theater here in Minneapolis.
If you're not familiar with the series, it's the Met's way of bringing world-class opera to cinemas across the country. The transmissions aren't just the performance itself; they're paired with special interviews and behind-the-scenes features that give you a look at the production from the inside. It's a good way to catch a full opera without having to travel to New York.
This particular screening falls within the 2026-27 season, which is a big one for the series—it's their 20th anniversary season. The full lineup for the year includes eight live opera transmissions, encore screenings, three popular encores from past seasons, and a special presentation marking two decades of the Met on screen. La Fanciulla del West is one of the live transmissions in that mix.
